Well here I am at last at Barcaple House. It's a lovely house with lots of staircases and rooms. It's got a great main staircase with wide steps and a lovely banister. The room I'm in is actually one of the guest rooms, but I'm only here temporarily, till I either move into the room they're fixing (the roof fell in...
old stately houses...) or one of the other rooms. So, alas, no unpacking yet...still going to be living out of a suitcase, but hopefully only for a few days.
Anyways, so I had to walk back to Waverly train station this morning, though this time it was downhill and a bit easier. I took the Birmingham train to Carlisle and changed there, and then took the Glasgow central train up to Dumfries, going first through Gretna Green and Annan. So, I have now officially been to England, and, more importantly, to Gretna Green. Sad to say there was no young gentleman there with whom I was eloping over the border to marry without my parents' or ruthless guardian's consent!
I was met at the station by two of my team members, we shall call them Bob and Amelia (we'll see if I remember those later on...). There they were holding a brightly coloured sign that had on it "Hannada." I understood the joke and that put me in their good books! We had a nice bit of banter going on in the car, so I felt nice and welcome. I still feel like a bit of a newbie since I don't know where everything is, and everyone else has been here for so much longer, but I'm sure I'll get to know the ropes fairly quickly.
There's a girls night going on this evening, with chocolate fondue and a bit of wine, so that should be fun! Tomorrow I have off so I guess I can ask my "mentor" type person more questions.
I only took a few snapshots on the train from Carlisle to Dumfries, so I suppose I'll put them up.

Sorry for the reflection, but I wanted to take a picture of the sheep :) |
 |
It was very flat between Carlisle and Annan, felt almost like a Manitoba kind of flat, up here though there are more hills. |
 |
More sheep for my mother (they're kinda small...sorry 'bout that) |
 |
Ah, Gretna Green |
 |
A wee bit of the town... |
Well, that's it for now. It's supper soon so I guess I'll head downstairs for a bit! Cheers!
Glad to hear you arrived safe and sound Hannada :)
